Lilac Avenue, My Grandparent's Home That Once Was

photographed using Hasselblad, 120mm Kodak Portra

My grandfather passed away while I was pregnant with my first child as I was visiting my home island of PEI. This house was central to our family gatherings growing up, and I wanted to document it before the home was changed and sold. This was during the period of the funeral, before our family went through the home to divide the things they wanted, before the walls were painted, carpets cleaned, cupboards emptied, and house eventually sold. The house is now unrecognizable, with the new owners having cut down the pine trees on the property almost immediately - ones my cousins and I spent many years climbing, sitting and playing under and around. The house was also quite dark. I worked with whatever film I happened to have on me as there wasn't a large supply of 120mm film to purchase in PEI at the time, and I hadn't been expecting to be attending a funeral on my visit that summer in 2017. Now, I am forever grateful I took these photos.

If you have a home, family heirloom or gathering place that you'd like documented in such a fashion, get in touch. I'd love to do the same for you.
